Check this out the weekend before Faster Pussycat!

'The Versus Show' is a culmination of collaboration and mutual admiration between two creative people. In its third series- The Versus Show III will showcase the eclectic work from Rob Scott and Nick Hornum. This is their debut collaborative show and it will feature Rob’s surreal forms juxtaposing Nick’s illustrative montages. The opening night will be a playground of art, music and street culture featuring live music, live art, wall projections, short films, sculptures ‘n’ more.

Rob started painting circa 2000 and has never looked back since first dropping acrylic for oil. His themes first contained illustrated figures in surreal, vibrant colour schemes with symbolic textured backgrounds. After an adequate exploration into colour theory and continual experimentation of their relationships Rob soon found himself delving into a style of illustrative/realism focusing on role models and characters he pulled from popular culture.
The theme of 'Duality' was Rob’s next conquest, which for him involved placing opposites together as subject matter, a dulling of saturation in his palette for more subtle blends and tonal depth, most importantly equalization through composition.

After a recent 'gang busting' exhibition with Georg at Nine Lives, Rob has now opted for a more free approach (concerning style, technique, materials and application) and now paints bike man!

Nick Hornum is known to dabble very well in paint and aerosol, though he finds most enjoyment through the texture and application of working with collage; predominately combining the adhesive effects of clag clue with empty cigarette packets. He states: “I like empty cigarette boxes that some disgruntled smoker has cast away from his or her body to momentarily distance themselves from the fact that they are incomplete without cigarettes. I like the fact that this is a vent for their addiction... but also a powerful resonation of modern society... 'When its broken or useless throw it away'.”
He is a true inspiration to all who work with mixed media as he combines illustrative markings, calligraphic lettering with collage in a fine art.

Rob and Nick’s montages, collages and painterly canvases will be on show at The Versus Show opening 20th November- which will run for 2 weeks. The opening night will not include a cover charge, but a buffet of visual stimulus, live music and a great opportunity to purchase the work of two of Brisbane’s top emerging artists.
